Otter Point Shark Activity butterfly

Published: Oct 31, 2022

On October 31, 2022, at 5:17 pm a surfer off Otter Point had a shark encounter approximately 100 yards from shore. During the encounter, the shark grazed and bumped the board. The Monterey County resident was thrown off the board during the encounter and paddled to shore uninjured.

Although there is no major surfboard damage, it will be tested to potentially determine the shark species.

Signs will be posted in the area notifying visitors of the shark encounter; however, coastal access will remain open per California State Parks protocols.

We ask our community members and visitors, to contact local public safety agencies in the event of a shark encounter.
