The census, which determines the federal resources California communities will receive for the next decade, concludes in 36 days. An undercount will cost California billions in funding we depend on to provide critical public services.
Currently, California has an overall response rate of only 65.1 percent. If that response rate doesn’t improve, our state will receive federal funding based on there being 26 million Californians instead of 40 million.
