As the 4th of July draws near, Hitchcock Road Animal Services (HRAS) reminds pet owners of free tools available to get lost and found pets back home.
Every year shelters locally and across the U.S. are filled with animals that have been scared from their homes due to fireworks.
HRAS offers two free innovative tools aimed at getting pets back home before they even enter the shelter:
- Lost2Found Texting Program: Text 831Lost or 831Found to 56525
- Finding Rover uses facial recognition technology - Register Free HERE
HRAS also reminds pets owners to not wait until July 4th to think about their pets and their safety as fireworks are already going off in local neighborhoods. Make sure identification tags and microchips are updated, fences are secure, pet sitters know what to do if a pet is lost and any other details needed to keep your pet safe are arranged now. All pet owners have the responsibility to keep their pet safe.
As of April 2020, both Salinas and Monterey County Animal Services are working together as Hitchcock Road Animal Services at the County animal shelter facility at 160 Hitchcock Road. Some services such as licensing and animal control remain separate. For specific contact numbers and for more information, please visit the HRAS website here.
